Corruption levels frightening - new IGG

Corruption in Uganda has reached frightening levels, the newly appointed Inspector General of Government   (IGG) Irene Mulyagonja has said.

“The rising levels of corruption are due to governance issues not being handled properly and corruption being politicized,” Mulyagonja said.

She made the remarks shortly after appearing before the Parliament appointments committee for vetting.  

Source have told the New Vision that she did not find hurdles during her interface with the committee an indication that she might have been approved for the job.

  According to Mulyagonja, the challenges that lies ahead of her and the inspectorate of Government is that, “the public does not understand what corruption is and the public’s role to fight it.”

 Justice Mulyagonja appeared before the committee chaired by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga. Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah and the Leader of Opposition in Parliament Mandala Mafabi are also members of the committee.
